Keynote:  

J. Nicholas Odom, PhD, RN, ACHPN, FPCN, FAAN

Dr. Odom is the Doreen C. Harper Endowed Professor of Nursing at the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Director of Caregiver and Bereavement Support Services in the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care. His program of research focused on developing and testing early palliative care coaching interventions for under-resourced family caregivers of individuals with serious illness, particularly advanced cancer and heart failure. Other thematic features of his research include lay navigation, telehealth, decision making, digital phenotyping, rural and African American populations, and the multiphase optimization strategy. Dr. Odom has received funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research, the National Cancer Institute, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Cambia Health Foundation, the National Palliative Care Research Center, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care. His visit is hosted by the University of Colorado Program in Palliative Care Research.  

In addition, the agenda will include completed research studies and quality improvement projects relevant to palliative care.
